Summary Objective

Person County Government is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Processing Assistant IV to join the Person County Health Department. This position plays a vital role within the Management Support section of a mid-sized public health agency, providing essential administrative and operational support across a wide range of clinical and public health programs.

In this role, the Processing Assistant IV serves as a key point of coordination for program staff, clinic services, and leadership, helping ensure efficient day-to-day operations and high-quality service delivery. The position supports multiple program areas, including Maternal Health, Family Planning, Adult Health, STD, Tuberculosis, Communicable Disease, and Immunizations.

This is a non-exempt position working 37.5 hours weekly/1950 hours annually.



Essential Functions

Eligibility—90%

  • Provides clerical support for Family Planning, Maternal Health, STI, Tuberculosis, Communicable Disease, and Immunization programs while adhering to the rules and regulations regarding these services.
  • Determines eligibility for Family Planning, Maternal Health, STI, and Immunization programs.
    • Updates demographics for each patient
    • Verifies insurance status
    • Verifies household income
    • Has patient sign appropriate forms for the visit
  • Provides direct clerical support to the Maternal Health/ STI Coordinator
Other Responsibilities—10%
  • Covers front desk as needed which includes answering phone, transferring calls, making appointments, checking in/out clients, and posting payments.
  • Assists the Communicable Disease Nurse in utilizing NCEDSS to access patient data to handle cases and treatment.
  • Prepares minutes after each Staff meeting and Management Support meeting.
  • Represents Management Support staff on various committees as assigned
  • Assists with offsite vaccination clinics and community events as needed.
  • Faxes or mails medical records in accordance with the Medical Records Policy
  • Serves as a deputy registrar, reviews and signs electronic death certificates; completes home birth certificates and green burial certificates when necessary’ process disinterment/reinternment and burial transit permits as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Management Support Supervisor and/or Health Director

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Required Minimum Training:

  • Graduation from high school and demonstrated possession of knowledges, skills, and abilities gained through at least two years of office/secretarial experience;
  • or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record per County policy.

  • A pre-employment drug screen for all candidates. Positions designated by Person County as Safety Sensitive are also subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
  • A background check for all candidates. Some positions also require a credit check.
