Primary Purpose of Organization Unit
The Office of University Communications and Marketing (UCM) at The University of North Carolina Pembroke is responsible for advancing the university’s brand, supporting enrollment and promoting institutional priorities through strategic communications and marketing.
UCM develops and delivers coordinated messaging across digital, print, social media and media platforms, supported by high-quality photography and video, to elevate awareness of the university’s academic programs, student success, research and community impact. The division collaborates with campus partners to support recruitment, strengthen internal communication and ensure a consistent, compelling representation of the UNCP experience.

UCM also provides oversight and support for the Givens Performing Arts Center, contributing to the university’s cultural engagement and community outreach efforts.
Primary Purpose of Position
The Director of Marketing directs the development and implementation of integrated marketing strategies that advance UNC Pembroke’s mission, elevate institutional brand awareness and drive enrollment growth. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing, this position plays a central role in promoting the university’s academic programs, strategic priorities and key initiatives to a wide range of audiences.

This role leads the planning and execution of enrollment marketing campaigns across digital, print and paid media channels, with a strong emphasis on supporting prospective undergraduate and graduate student recruitment at every stage of the enrollment funnel. The Director collaborates closely with partners across campus — including Enrollment Management, the Graduate School and academic units — to ensure coordinated messaging, strategic alignment and a seamless, audience-centered experience.

The position also provides oversight of the university’s social media strategy and leverages data and analytics to assess campaign effectiveness, inform decision-making and continuously improve marketing performance.
Job Description
The Director of Marketing leads the university’s enrollment marketing strategy, directing the development and execution of integrated campaigns designed to support undergraduate and graduate student recruitment and advance institutional enrollment goals. Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Communications and Marketing, this position oversees multi-channel marketing initiatives across digital, social media, web, email, print and paid advertising platforms to engage prospective students throughout the enrollment funnel. The Director provides strategic marketing counsel and direction to Enrollment Management, the Graduate School, academic colleges and admissions partners to ensure coordinated, audience-focused messaging and alignment with institutional brand standards and recruitment priorities. The position also leverages marketing analytics and performance data to guide decision-making, optimize campaign effectiveness and strengthen UNC Pembroke’s visibility and competitiveness in the higher education marketplace.
Management Preference
  • Experience in higher education or a similarly complex organization
  • Experience supporting enrollment marketing initiatives, including recruitment campaigns across the student lifecycle
  • Experience using data and analytics to inform strategy and measure performance
  • Experience supervising professional staff and leading cross-functional teams
  • Demonstrated experience developing and executing integrated marketing strategies across multiple channels
