- Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to oversee recreational center personnel, associated programs, and services as well as assist with the coordination of various community outreach initiatives and special events. This is accomplished by supervising the programming of each facility; overseeing and directing full-time and part-time personnel; preparing and managing divisional budgets; conducting personnel and safety meetings; managing work orders; ensuring all documentation is submitted by personnel; assisting in the development and implementation of departmental policies and procedures; and completing other duties as assigned.

- Examples of Duties
- Hires, trains, and supervises full-time staff that manage programming in the areas of Youth and Adult Athletics, Youth and Adult Tennis, and facility operations at H. Boyd Lee Park and River Birch Tennis Center;
- Conducts personnel safety meetings, performance evaluations, and directs new hire processes;
- Ensures program marketing is created and distributed, partners with other organizations and departments, and approves web page content for publication;
- Assigns personnel and volunteers for recreational programs, conducts classes and camps, and implements programming as needed;
- Performs weekly facility inspections and collaborates with the Parks division to ensure facilities are well maintained;
- Serves on committees and boards; attends meetings; and represents the Recreation and Parks department at events;
- Speaks to various groups and organizations regarding departmental functions and programs;
- Completes departmental reports and ensures all documentation is submitted by personnel;
- Assists in monitoring the recreational budget, tracks revenues and expenditures, and assists staff with handling their respective budgets; and
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Manages various contracts and facility lease agreements
- Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in recreation administration or other closely related field; AND
- Three or more years of progressively responsible experience in recreation programming, preferably in a municipal setting, including at least one year of supervisory experience.

- plan, direct, and coordinate the work of staff and volunteers.

- operate assigned equipment, including computer equipment and become proficient in various software packages such as Rec Trac, Microsoft Office, and Munis.
- work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.
- perform a broad range of supervisory responsibilities over others.
- organize, promote, and implement recreational programs.
- facilitate the flow of information across department and division staff.
- analyze and evaluate programs, policies and operational needs.
- establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with staff, City Council, commissions, community groups and the general public.
- Special Requirements
- CPR Certified, First Aid Certified, AED Certified (must obtain within 30 days of hire)
- Valid NC Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
- Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred.
