Primary Purpose of Department
The Chemistry Department is dedicated to excellence in education, research, and community engagement. Home to 26 full-time faculty members, eight full-time staff members, more than 200 undergraduate majors, and over 40 graduate students, the department offers B.A., B.S. (ACS certified) and M.S. degrees in chemistry, and it administers the interdisciplinary Ph.D. in Chemistry and Nanoscale Science. The Department is dedicated to the success and professional development of students of all backgrounds; engaging undergraduate and graduate students in collaborative, innovative scientific research; and supporting the local, regional, national, and international communities through leadership and outreach.

Description of Work

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals.

Teaching – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties include teaching introductory chemistry courses, primarily General Chemistry lecture and labs.
Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
Preferred qualifications include at least one year of experience teaching introductory chemistry courses and experience in curriculum/pedagogy development. We especially welcome applicants with experience and interest in utilizing evidence-based scientific teaching and learning practices to foster student success in general education and introductory chemistry courses.
Necessary Licenses/Certifications
Required qualifications include a master’s or doctoral degree (or the equivalent) in chemistry or a related area, and at least one semester of teaching experience (including TA experience) at the college level.
