Minimum Experience/Education
  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in planning, architecture, engineering,graphic design, communications, data science, or a related field.
  • Advanced knowledge of data and analysis software and other pertinent software/systems (Excel, PowerPoint, Google platform, etc.).
  • Effective skills in verbal, written and interpersonal communications.
  • Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
  • Ability to work independently and self-monitor work progress.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Duties and Responsibilities
The Data Science Intern is an important member of our department staff and contributes to achieving organizational goals by assisting with a variety of department tasks. In addition, the data science intern will specifically work on various space utilization data projects, signage information projects, or other data projects related to the enterprise of planning, design, and construction. These responsibilities would include but are not limited to:
  • combining department space allocations (building location and square footage) with Facility Management’s (FM) financial operations data,
  • modeling future space needs based on the variable of enrollment growth,
  • calculations for recommended existing facility expansions, new facilities, and/or leased space needs,
  • estimated project costs,
  • assisting in conducting space audits of university facilities,
  • input of data into our university facility database system (Archibus)
  • generating reports and presentations regarding campus space usage,
  • verification of facility data,
  • participation in department and/or project meetings,
  • assisting staff in the administration of campus projects/studies,
  • researching subject matter relative to facility planning, design, and construction.
Other Work/Responsibilities
Other duties as assigned to assist in the successful operations of the Planning, Design,and Construction department.
