In this role, you'll be the MVP overseeing youth and adult sports leagues, special events, tournaments, and facility rentals. We're on the lookout for enthusiastic individuals who have a knack for leadership, communication, and a passion for the game.

Must be able to work a flexible schedule which includes evenings and weekends, as needed.

This is a seasonal (May-August), non-benefited position, approximately 30-40 hours per week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.

Typical Tasks

  • On-site supervision of youth and adult sports leagues and events
  • Manage scorekeepers and field usage during athletic games, rentals, and events
  • Handle basic accounting for ticket sales
  • Effectively handle any challenging situations and disputes
  • Open, set up, and close athletic and park facilities
  • Keep score for adult and youth sports leagues
  • Ensure accuracy in accident and incident report forms
  • Collect and organize paperwork related to results, accidents, and incidents
  • Communicate effectively with staff, booking agents, and emergency personnel
  • Enforce Cary policies with a friendly touch
  • Provide routine information on departmental policies, procedures, and services
  • Perform other job-related tasks as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of baseball
  • General knowledge of common computer software
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and the public, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact with the public and participants tactfully and constructively
  • Strong organizational skills with a keen attention to detail
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions for extended periods of time

Minimum and Preferred Qualifications

Education and Experience
Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED.

Requires a CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months with provided training)
Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:

  • Some supervisory experience in community or group recreation activities in athletics
  • Some prior knowledge of baseball
  • Some experience working with a recreation software
Physical Requirements
Work in this class requires the employee to be able to move about freely and walk unassisted in order to move about the facility. An employee must be able to lift or move moderately heavy to heavy items (up to 75 lbs. for an item on wheels, and up to 25 lbs. regularly) such as equipment bags, pitching machines, and other related equipment. Visual acuity is needed to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal. The employee must be able to work outside in various weather conditions, such as rain or heat, for extended periods of time.

Conditions of Employment
Requires possession of a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, SBI fingerprinting, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) and satisfactory reference checks prior to employment.
