Position Summary Information
| Primary Purpose | The Environmental Health, Safety, and Emergency Management Office develops and manages comprehensive environmental health, safety, and emergency management programs for Appalachian State University. The Safety Coordinator provides training and safety program assistance in support of the University’s mission. This position works with many departments across campus to ensure safe working and learning environments. The Safety Coordinator helps minimize risk by conducting building inspections and accident investigations, tracking incident reports, delivering safety training for new employees and additional programs required under OSHA standards, and providing technical assistance to facilities, athletics, campus support, and academic research programs. This position plays a key role in safety oversight of the Hickory campus and other App State facilities away from the main campus. |

License/ Certification Required Preferred Qualifications CSP or related certification Experience as a safety professional conducting building inspections and accident investigations, providing safety training, and performing a variety of additional duties related to occupational health and safety. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Program Delivery Provides safety training using a variety of platforms to include in-person and online. Remains current on industry trends and make appropriate changes to program areas of responsibility. Coordinates with other industry professionals, consultants, and vendors to provide appropriate safety services on campus. Provides safety oversight of the Hickory campus and other App State facilities away from the main campus Technical Expertise Conducts building inspections and accident investigations. Recommends and implements appropriate procedures to address safety concerns. Provides technical information and expertise to university constituents on occupational safety. Provides training and educational resources on occupational health and safety. Documentation & Reporting Tracks incident reports Communicates corrective actions in an effective manner to various entities and individuals across campus. Formulates written and verbal reports to communicate findings, recommendations, and corrective actions. Serves on the University Health and Safety Committee. Develops appropriate reports for a wide range of internal and external audiences.
