About this Opportunity
The Vector Control Operator performs duties for Vector Control and Water Management Divisions to protect County citizens from mosquito populations and the diseases they may carry. This position also performs semi-skilled work in vector control, water management and beaver management including surveillance, larviciding, adulticiding, biological controls trapping, and ditching to manage mosquito and beaver populations.

- Vector Control Operator I: $17.90/hr - $24.17/hr
- Vector Control Operator II: $19.74/hr - $26.64/hr
- Vector Control Operator III: $21.76/hr - $29.37/hr
Vector Control Operator I:
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by six months of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License required.
- Category B pesticide applicators license preferred.
Vector Control Operator II:
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by 2 years of associated experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License required
- Category B pesticide applicators license required.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within one (1) year of employment.
Preferred Qualifications: Thorough taxonomic understanding of adult and larval mosquitoes native to Brunswick County. Demonstrated proficiency in beaver trapping and mitigation techniques. Experience with heavy equipment, including track hoes, dump trucks, front-end loaders, and backhoes. Proficiency with ArcGIS and County Tax maps to accurately identify land parcels and property owners. Familiarity with regulatory requirements overseen by the USFWS, NCDA&CS, USACE, and NCDEQ.
Vector Control Operator III:
Requires a high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by 5 years of associated experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
- Category B pesticide applicators license required.
- NCDA&CS Aerial Applicator Class P license required within 6 months of employment.

Physical Requirements
Tasks involve the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which involves the lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (up to 75 pounds) and occasionally heavy items (up to 100 pounds). Must be able to perform duties in strenuous environmental conditions.
